First Page Photo Magazine

Introduction:

I thought the first page was going to be pretty easy, when we went through it in class I followed a long well and it seemed like something i would remember when doing on my own. I was very wrong. I drew a blank on a lot of tools I had to use and when to use them.

Challenges:

I faced a lot of challenges when doing the title page. Once I found out how to outline the picture of the person I then forgot how to go back and move the outline back to the person because it went to far. After that I also didn't know how to erase the background because when I went to the tool it wouldn't let me because the pixels were not allowing it to. After looking through most of the videos on the spreadsheet and doing my own research I could still not figure it out so I gave up and decided I would explain what I wanted it to look like. Another issue I can across was trying to attach my photo to this blog, it wouldn't let me attach the one that i did on photo shop of just putting one photo over the other and it wouldn't even let me attach my other photo that i used besides this one. I will also have to look into that to see why it was acting up.

Photo:

I had many great ideas of what i wanted my photo to turn out to look like, but my lack of practice with adobe photoshop held me from making them come true. I have inserted a picture of a very basic look of how I was hoping the picture would turn out. My photo story was about my mom and how being a mom is a very important job, therefore I thought to crop her out of one of the pictures I used in my photo story and put her in front of our house. Another problem i came across was that I didn't not take any pictures of my house so I had to use a cartoon one to fill in the image. I will be taking a picture of my house this break when i go home for thanksgiving to solve one of the issues, and the rest I will also follow up on later with a classmate or the professor.

Conclusion:

In conclusion I will be doing a lot more practice with adobe photoshop to strengthen my skills, that way i can make the things I imagine come true.

swatchy schemey

Overview:

In the Spirit of halloween just passing I decided to use this spooky picture. It has a lot of different shades of colors in it but the most that stand out to me is black, red, and whiteish yellow.

Task #1:  Photograph

I recreated the colors from my photo into color swatches using the program Adobe Indesign. This is the photo that I got inspiration from for the colors for my swatches.

Task #2: Swatches

For the swatches I opened up Indesign and made 9 equal size boxes then took the three colors I noticed most in the original photo and took the darkest and lightest of each color, and also added in an middle ground of the colors. Now looking at it though I do with I did yellow at the top and the red then black just to make it go from lightest to darkest.

Task #3: Nameplate

When created my nameplates I made three equal rectangles by making one then copy and pasting for the other two to make sure they were equal. Then I made my name one of the other colors from my swatches and the description of who I am below, in the other Color that i did not choose before for the name. I then repeated these steps for the other two name plates.

Conclusion:

I thought this assignment was very fun to work with and it working in the program adobe Indesign it made it very easy to do these swatches and name plates. I think this assignment has helped me improve with my Indesign skills and will help me later in life when I have to use the name plate for linkedIn or other professional things.

The Photos

The Filter
For me, I like to do a simple approach to photos. That being said these pictures I put the expose of the photo up 1 and a half for one of the levels and the other I increased the contract up about 3 more than the original photo.

What I Learned
When making the filter I used I learned that it is a lot harder actually making the filter than just hitting a preset that I usually use for my photos. A lot more work goes into the process of the photo looking better than I thought. I really like to make my photos look whiter than they are usually therefore, I make the whites stand out and the blacks become more of grays. Another thing I learned was that this filter doesn't work on every photo. For example, in the second photo you can barley see a difference where as in the third one there is a big difference.

This generation is very big on taking pictures. Whether it be of themselves, the food they're bout to eat, or just of the pretty scenery they are walking by. That being said we take a lot of pictures and most of the time only end up posting about one or two of them. Another thing this generation does a lot is editing; we crop, brighten, and take different angles just to get an Instagram shot. Most of the time people don't know that when this is all being done they are actually using compositional concepts. The compositional concepts I choose to use are lines, symmetry, blank space, viewpoint and curve.

Photos:

Lines
This picture I decided to use the lines from inside the toaster to resemble my compositional concept. Even though the lines aren't straight they are still the first thing my eyes are drawn to when I look at this picture.

Blank space
This picture was kind of difficult to take because I had to have one of my friends hold up the toaster so I could angle it the right way to get all the blank space from the wall, making the toaster the main object in the photo.

Symmetry
I think this photo resembles symmetry because of the top of the stove is the same on both sides even though it isn't exactly the same it is very similar.

Viewpoint
I put my own personal twist on viewpoint. When researching what viewpoint was I saw that many people were taking the object they were taking a photo of and would look at it a different way than we normally see it. For this picture I took viewpoint in a different way. Instead, I put it in a location that it wouldn't typically be in, therefore the way we are viewing it is different setting than normal but not from the angle, from the background behind the toaster.

Curve
For this picture I used the cord of the toaster to resemble curve. When you think of a toaster, curves are usually not one of the first things to pop into your mind. Tha'ts why I like this picture because its not expected.
